PREVENTING Those Unwanted FALSE ALARMS

WHAT CAUSES "FALSE" ALARMS?
1. Pets and pests getting too close to motion detectors.
2. Unlocked, loose, and/or partially open doors and windows.
3. Curtains, balloons, decorations, etc., moving in front of motion detectors.
4. User error is the most common cause. Stay alert when operating your alarm system.
5. Individuals entering your home or business without being trained to use your security system.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY ALARM GOES OFF?
1. DON'T PANIC! Have your alarm keypad code, your password, and your account number handy!
2. If you activated the system accidentally, use your keypad or remote control to disarm the system.
3. Check to make sure that there really isn't an intruder or a fire in your home or business!
4. After you have "reset" the system, call the monitoring central station and report the false alarm
or wait for a monitoring station representative to call you and then report the false alarm.

HOW CAN I BE PREPARED FOR FALSE ALARMS?
1. Keep your alarm system user manual and the monitoring central station phone number handy.
2. Everyone who is authorized to use your alarm system, whether they have keys to your home or business premises or not, should know a code to the security system and how to properly operate it. They must also know an acceptable current password to give to the central station operator and the phone number to the central station for reporting a false alarm.
